Before us is a building which looks like an old military blockhouse installation. We’re in an overgrown field, located in the middleish of Kansas. Looking for cameras. Icarus scans for comms and cameras. No external comms. 1 external camera on doorway. Icarus sends the positioning info to everyone including the presumed observation cone.
Equinox turns invisible and slips through the blades of grass up to the door. About 5 yards of kill zone. It sucks to be the evil Nazi schmuck that has to cut the stuff.
Kimyee tries to sneak but winds up wallowing through the grass like Voldemort’s giant snake. We warn her. She stops and Synergy moves forward. I create a device to spoof the empty space so we can fool the camera into ignoring our presence. Icarus takes it to Equinox and he places it on the camera. I record a minute of footage and begin playback.
I sneak through the grass like a snake. Cyrillo disappears like the last cupcake and moves up to the edge of the grass.
The lock is a combination of a physical lock and a blank screen with buttons. Is it like the lock in Montana? Similar. Plain white buttons. It is a pattern lock. Colour pattern. I crack the security and determine that facial recognition from the camera activates the pad which requires a thumbprint and the colour code.
Instead of reenabling the camera, spoofing a thumbprint and me trying to figure out the colour code, Cyrillo phases through the door and opens it from the other side. He goes inside and as soon as he turns the knob, the lights come on and bad stuff happens. 4 lasers fire at him and he dodges. Unfortunately, that takes him away from the door. More lasers join in the fun.
The alarms start shrieking and we go charging in, Xariel and her huge sword following. Automated lasers are firing in the hallway of death. 50’ long and 1.5 ppl wide.
Computer voice. “Identity confirmed. Reclamation process initiated.”
Synergy dives over Yosono and Equinox, using her badass gymnastics skills to dodge the lasers. Then she activates her reflection power to protect both of them. Nice.
Icarus “Nanite transmissions detected. Helix override has been initiated.” Nothing, however, seems to happen.
I try and shut down the lasers. I fail and the keypad shoots at me. Who the hell puts a gun in a keypad???
Equinox and his visible, sparkling self redirects the lasers to shoot each other. He takes out 1/3 of them. Nice. He does it again and takes out the rest.
Xariel takes her sword and disables the gun. “Technology is nothing against the will of God.”
The computer identifies Cyrillo and observes a malfunction in the nanite protocols. Reinitializing.
I gain complete control over the lasers.
We go into the hallway. This is the dorm area. The first two doors are unlocked but have electrical shock on the door. Third door has a gas trigger, probably chlorine. I open the rest telekinetically.
They are all empty. The last one is very luxurious, probably for the kiss-ass of the group. No “Welcome Back Cyrillo” banners to our eternal disappointment.
The elevator is on this floor and has no turrets inside. Cyrillo thinks the elevator can be externally controlled. We decide to walk into the trap and step into the elevator. It drops to begin a rapid descent but I take control with a Yellow FEAT. Sweet. The door opens into the initial training area.
There are kids there. Vary in age from 7 to 15. The dude in the centre is the head trainee, who is basically someone who worked his way up the food chain (19), probably by stabbing his fellow recruits in the back.
Xariel is filled with righteous indignation. “They are but children!” She flies out and lands right in front of Mr. Head Trainee. “Your sin is Pride.” He starts to fight her. “You weakness is here.” She taps him on the shoulder and he collapses.
The trainees assume fight positions. “Never surrender!” 5 trainees. The 7 year old looks similar to Allison. I put her to sleep through her nanites. (Sister? Allison thought she may have had one.)
HT “You are a false image created to test me and I will destroy you!” He tries to hit her, but fails miserably.
Helix goes after the 15 year old and wiffs. The counterattack sends Helix reeling for a round. Synergy charges to Helix’s rescue and tries to hit the guy, but he evades. Wow. Go Cobra Kai.
Yosono surrounds the other three with columns of fire. The 9 year old runs through and attacks me. The 12 year old girl goes after Xariel. The 13 year old is in the fire and freaking.
Synergy gets clocked by Mr. 15 year old.
Xariel touches the Head Trainer’s head and to the 12 year old. “The truth shall be revealed.” They seem a bit stunned. Equinox suggests they go through the portal. The girl freaks and runs while the HT slinks through, weighted by GUILT!!!
Yosono hit the 9 year old with a fireball. He attacks her in return with antigravity.
Xariel pushes through the fire in angelic glory to the 13 yo and she tells him to go to the portal. He agrees and she propels him there. Another gone!
I command 9 yo to sleep and he does. Yosono falls but by some miracle, I catch her telekinetically. Woot! Equinox catches him before he falls to the ground.
Helix wails on 15 yo, but he takes the damage in stride. Wow, they really make these guys tough.
Xariel comes over and heals the 9 yo, then she sends him through the portal.
Synergy gets tired of playing and she tosses a plasma ball at him. He gets knocked out and Xariel puts in the portal. Just a note, she tapped all of them with the Truth-touch before they went through.
And that’s the end of that. Moving on…
I am able to take control of the elevator enough to take us down one level. The door opens to the lab level. I send a quick note to Stronghold that we’re going to be sending equipment. There’s a long hallway with many doors, some designed to keep people in.
We decide to go down one more level, but I am prevented from doing so by some really strong kung fu. So I try again and make the elevator my bitch. We go down.
The doors open. We see a wall with two secure doors. Helix remembers this is the elite room. Label over the door says “Centurions”. Helix remembers being programmed to be in awe of the Centurions. Once he achieved that level, he would have gotten a name. Ooh. This sounds intimidating.
I telekinetically knock on the door and it opens. There are 3 costumed ppl in the room. Dark and brooding costumed villains, posing like the badasses they hope to be.
- Matriarch Female (Disney) – Malefecint
- Radz Male (XMen) – guy in red and yellow with a radiation symbol
- Thermal Disruption Female (DOA) – bluish skin with fiery red hair, scantily clad, fiery red bikini
Cenpec speaks. “Mr. Nagasi, you never got to be a Centurion and thus never received a name. Radz, Matriarch, Thermal Disruption. I see you brought assistance. Some unexpected company.” He decides to make it fair and locks Xariel in the elevator. Yeah, like that will stop her if she wants out.
We assume the Power Ranger formation inside the room.
Yosono holds action.
Radz gets cheesy on us. “I’m going to make you scream.” Superspeeds up to Yosono and then nukes her.
Synergy flings some plasma balls at Thermal Disruption and misses horribly.
TD surrounds Synergy in ice. And so the capturing begins…
Helix punches Radz, offended by his cheesiness, and sends him flying.
I hit Radz with 60 electrical. He shrugs off some of the damage and smirks at me. “Your turn next, sweetheart.” (begin changing to another selection pwr – Molecular Conversion)
Equinox moves in between the other two.
Matriarch tries to hypnotize Helix. He begins seeing her way, compelled by her hotness and the possibility of sex.
A teleportation effect activates and Obsidian appears. WTF???
Yosono flings an iceball at Radz. Ouch. 98 pts of damage. Now he felt that. “Bitch.” She flips him off, and I’m guessing I’m no longer the next target.
Synergy hit TD with a full powered plasma ball (40).
Radz looking rather fragged, btw. I ask him to surrender, but he proclaims his intent to “break you in half, bitch.” Yosono responds that he’s not man enough, and the enemy chicks seem a bit amused. Synergy, “Oh, snap!”
Matriarch brings Helix farther into the folds of her bosom. He is now contemplating attacking us for the opportunity of pussy. He goes to crystallize the area around me and fails. Then he attacks and misses.
I throw a lightning bolt at her and she brushes the 80 pts of damage off. But it affected her.
Obsidian moves over to me to try and kick my ass. I evade the first time, but he swings again and hits. I get knocked back near the wall.
Equinox turns out the lights. We switch to night vision.
Matriarch tries to get the rest of us to surrender. Equinox blows it off, barely, but Yosono and I begin to believe we should. Damnit.
Synergy busts out of the ice, pissed off. Then she attacks Matriarch with a plasma ball to the face. She takes another 40 points of damage. Equinox, meanwhile, sends us a text telling us to resist the domination.
Radz sends out an AOE blast of radiation.
TD holds action
Helix breaks the mental control and goes after Matriarch. She evades and counterattacks.
I try and turn Obsidian’s clothing to lead. It does not work, and it becomes obvious it’s not him, but an illusion. I hit TD with a 60 point strike of lightning.
Equinox taunts Matriarch, circling her and punching from random direction. 20 pts with no armour bonus. Ouch. She gets stunned.
Cenpec speaks! “I don’t know what you call him, but Tantamount show them we mean business.” Xerox appears.
Psyche check. Wtf? Cenpec arrives. Ooh.
Yosono smacks Radz with an ice ball and knocks him out.
Synergy taunts TD and holds her action.
TD shoots fire at Synergy and is reflected right back. Ooh. She gets told that Xerox will take care of us all, and Synergy mentions that it’s just a robot. “He’s not a robot.”
Helix attacks Matriarch. 25 pts. She goes down. “Goodnight, Gracie.”
I shoot at TD with electricity and do another 60 pts.
Cenpec tries to influence Yosono and she warns us there is another mentalist.
Equinox goes invisible and moves near Xerox. “Hey Adjective!”
Xerox goes invisible. Damn. I open the elevator.
Xariel wants to know if we need assistance. I let her know that the guy in charge of screwing all these kids is roaming around trying to mind control people.
She finds Cenpec and tells him not to try and mind controlling her because he is no match for the will of god. She flies into the corner and stabs him. He sword glows and he collapses. Wow. She just imprisoned his soul.
Tantamount – “Leadership failure. Backup directives activated.” He teleports away.
TD seems relieved that Cenpec is imprisoned. “The Boss” Seriously?
All of a sudden she collapses. Oh crap! They’re deactivating her. I grab control of the nanites and stop it, but have to concentrate.
Xariel takes care of the prisoners while we take her upstairs to the labs.
We need an EM generator to stun the nanites so I can reprogram them.
Yosono finds the Nanite Control Area.
Synergy works the console while I continue to prevent the nanites from harming TD. She activates a life support and de-dependency program. Nice. The bad nanites shut down and the rest reboot.
Woo! I’m glad that worked. We need to get some of this stuff.
I call the Guardians to find out what we should do with all this tech. I don’t want to send it to Stronghold since it seems like they have a high level leak.
Citadel says they will send the tech expert. Hedron arrives.
He checks the rest of the rooms and one is electrified. I open the door and take 22 pts of damage because I forgot about my TK.
Mainframe – controls and tracks all the nanites. Hedron bonds with it. There are 1300 of them out there. Can we have it? After the people with the nanites are tracked down and get rid of the bad stuff in them.
The program looks like it was a failsafe to deactivate if Cenpec went down for a certain amount of time. Stronghold is blocking the signal and have figured out how stop it.
Command was only sent to his Centurions. Xerox was one of them, but overrode the command. He has a GPS locator, though. Justin Hammer’s house. I check on his location. It’s all quiet on the Hammer front.
I really hope this isn’t Adrian, but it’s looking bad.
I get the general coordinates and create a gateway there. It’s the courtyard.
We come to the door and Justin answers. I flatter his ego enough for him to let us look around for a renegade robot we chased to this location. (I’m sure your technology is far too advanced for us to understand.)
He begins hitting on Yosono, and she distracts him while I link into his security system (Hammer 5000) and scan for the robot. There’s a hole in the footage which I try to recover.
He has a mutant gene detector that is supposed to tell what powers she has. It doesn’t work completely, but it does indicate she has nature powers.
His security system is actually rather good. It lands in Adrian’s lab.
We go upstairs and look around. I track the signal to Adrian’s room and his lab. He’s there studying. Justin talks about me (Alessandra) not being right for his son, since I worked for the competition. Adrian does not seem impressed by his logic.
It doesn’t appear that Adrian is phased by our looking for the robot.
We go into the lab. There’s a sunroof, which would be a great place to fit the armour.
Equinox, Helix, and I search the lab. Equinox figures out that the skylight is showing the wrong weather.
It’s activated remotely. I do so, and an elevator comes down. We go up.
It opens up into an attic-like space with tech like that of the Cenpec base. Crap. The armour is there as well.
We bug the hell out of the place.
Go back down and I grab one of his pieces of least-used tech and modify it to send out a similar signal. I tell them that someone was probably trying to throw us off the trail by hiding it in the location where highly-advanced robotic technology is developed. Justin preens, but neither of them seem to react to the possibility of us finding the armour. Perhaps we have a Green-Goblin situation here. Adrian gets switched off while Tantamount turns on. Wow. So he may not be aware of what he is doing. They opened up his head and had access to his brain and is old enough to be a Centurion.
We need to talk with TD and see what she knows.
Tantamount has a name, so he may be a Centurion.
Adrian was adopted and is old enough to have been through the training.
Maybe the Centurions are trainees who have their own natural metahuman abilities in addition to the nanites.
We go home. Kimyee and Elli bathe the Hammer slime off of them, and then spend the evening recovering from the horror of it all. I go home and talk with my parents. The Guardians will keep track of the tech and are watching the base. Hopefully we find that Stronghold leak soon.
I pull up the bugs in the attic. Nothing is really going on, just humming away on standby or doing whatever they do when not actively being used.
Tell Minerva to inform me when something happens in the lab and to modify the 3d model of the Xerox armour for greater accuracy.
Icarus is still downloading. Review next week.
