AAAAIIIIIEEEEEaaaaiiiiiieeeee…… thump! We fall on to something that is not soft but safe enough for us to be uninjured. Apparently they want us in one piece.
It’s dark. Hella-dark. We may be eaten by a grue.
And then the smell hits us. Crap. I fail my saving throw miserably. Time to lose consciousness. Thud. Everyone but Kimyee passes out. The gas grows thicker, and finally she loses it.
We wake up sometime later, still in the grue-infested darkness. Suddenly, the lights blare on. We are in our own padded rooms. Ellie finally awakens. Georgia is apparently still in the dark. Then the sound stops and we can no longer hear each other.
We are in white skinsuits and they took our stuff. They better not hurt my phone or someone’s going to suffer the deaths of a thousand devices.
Light fixtures 12’ above us, white room, padded, door which opens out and has a covered window. There is a camera up in the corner of the room.
I begin singing “This is the song that never ends” and then try to link into the security camera to check out the other cells. We are being held in the same cell block out of nine cells. Us and three empty cells. System is not always connected – on demand. Hallway is part of the main network, so I cannot see there. Dammit.
Ellie’s bouncing up and down
Kimyee is singing “Henry the Eighth”
Adrian is looking around in annoyance and concentration
Cyrillo is working out to occupy himself
And I am bored out of my mind
They connect to my cell. I surge out to try and explore the system. “Alessandra Morgan!” I sing louder and keep looking.
Get the layout of the facility.
They get even louder and I keep looking for the dude. Fail. So I disconnect.
They begin asking me questions and I reply in my typically smart-ass manner.
“Do you know why you’re here?”
Seriously? How the hell would we know?
“Do you attend the Richard Saunders Institute of Higher Learning?”
Like they don’t know.
They threaten me and move on to Kimyee.
Blah blah… tested? Wait, what? They are looking for mutants as a result of the Mutant Registration Act and will be considered a threat.
If the test is positive, then we will be imprisoned or will have to serve them.
“Who is telepathic?”
“The greater good… blah… blah… blah…”
So maybe the reason everything was so dark was because one of us is telepathic and not aware of it?
Move on to Cyrillo
“We do not have to run tests on you because we already know you’re a mutant. We just want to find out how you’ve improved through the years.”
“We could use a person like you”
“At least we know half of what you are capable of because we’re the ones who caused it.”
“Does it really require explanation or do they teach you to think at that school?” Have they seen our school?
“Give a chance to try out for joining us. Two ways this can go: 1. You can join us and get the cool secret decoder ring and whatever your little mind can dream of. 2. Against us, we will shut down your nanites, because there is no way the tech genius friend of yours could possibly figure out how to reactivate them.”
Same speech of testing, joining, and consequences.
“Fuck you. There isn’t anything you can do to me that hasn’t already been done.” Then she flips them off. Go Ellie.
Another canned speech – apparently they are politicians – telepathy
She starts crying
Blah, blah, blah, telepathy, blah…
“Are you scared it was me?” Wait, what? “Maybe I’m in your head right now.” Sweet. See, this is why I’m dating him.
His door opens and two large men come in to grab him. Kinky bastards.
I try and see who has us.
I get an image of the back of a tall chair with a man in a suit – the Chairman of the Evil Nazi Pedophile Corporation. Cenpec.
Then they disconnect.
Ellie is the only one looking in the direction of the camera. I start flashing “Hello Ellie” in binary.
Evil nazi pedo.
Do we care?
Subtle for now.
The camera will only zoom.
Are the locks electronic? Electro-mechanical. Electronic activation – remains in the previous state when power is lost.
Now that I have exhausted the possibilities of the camera, time to move on to the lock.
Suddenly, we are mentally contacted.
“Hello?” It’s Georgia’s voice.
She’s afraid and confused as to wtf is going on.
Wow, so she’s the telepathic one. Coolness.
I tell her she needs to try and stay calm.
She disconnects to I can get back to getting us out of here.
I go back to playing with the lock to the accompaniment of “1000 bottles of beer on the wall”
I try and get into the lock and fail with a Green FEAT
Nor can I rip the padding off the wall to get to the lock.
Cyrillo gets contacted again.
“Have you reconsidered our offer?”
“There are always choices in life and consequences for those… yada… yada… yada… Whatever.” Yawn.
This a major decision and I need more time.
“Another lesson is that you are not always given the time you want.” Sure. Whatever.
“We expect your decision the next time we check in. Say yes and we’ll open up your door.”
It’s a trap!
With the passcodes I can open up any door but I have to know the address of the door. Not labeled on layout. So I’m basically back to square one. Crap.
Then Kimyee causes a minor earthquake. I decide to freak out and run around screaming and pounding on the walls. And that is how to take out some frustration in prison, bitches.
All sorts of alarms go off and the system becomes connected. Sweet!
Where is Adrian?
They are getting ready to drag him somewhere. A creepy medical area.
He’s wearing a copy of the Stronghold anti-power cuffs.
I find the address of my cell. (Red FEAT)
Try to crack the code using Hyperintelligence. (Red FEAT)
Sixteen digits, but it becomes my bitch.
I loop the video and gtfo. (Hopefully, since this is a GM mystery roll)
Ellie is in the second room near mine. She blackens the lens and I link into the lock. It’s not the same code, but there is a retina scanner and I convince it that my retina is the correct retina. Yes, this is the retina you are looking for. (Red FEAT)
Then the earthquake hits. 4.5, but it keeps on going. Damn, Kimyee. Impressive.
Get to Georgia’s cell. And discover the god-retina pattern that will open all the locks. (00 Bitch!!!)
We move on to Kimyee’s cell and let her out.
“So have you considered our offer, Cyrillo?”
You probably shouldn’t have built this place on a fault line.
“The time for a decision has come.”
(I hope he moons them.)
And that’s when I show up. Unfortunately, the red light is still on and they see me. I enter the code milliseconds after they lock down the system. Crap
Cyrillo breaks down the door after I turn it into aluminum and Kimyee freezes it.
Now we need to rescue Adrian.
Georgia wants to gtfo and has no real care for rescuing anyone else. Well, she’s still the victim of elite bastard brainwashing.
I open up a gateway and send Georgia to Tony’s estate.
We decide to leave our stuff behind. It’s probably better that they not connect our new supers to us, so we go to get Adrian instead. The costume devices will self destruct if tampered with, as probably will Tony’s phone, so everything else is replaceable.
We head to the basement. Ellie tells us the guards are coming, so we speed down the stairwell, me with hyperspeed and the others leaping from stair to stair.
I use my hyperintelligence to figure out how to crack the door. (Red FEAT)
Open the door, which is only a retina scan (White FEAT, and then Red FEAT)
There are 2 guys posted at a door who look over at us when we open the door. They have guns – power suppressing and normal. Crap.
Kimyee throws a fireball at them. 30 pts. They don’t die, but they are on fire. They drop the guns, and I run down the hallway and kick the guns out of the way. Cyrillo and Kimyee destroy the guns using their convenient self destruct setting.
There is a keypad at the door, and I permutate the code using my hyperintelligence. 25 character passcode.
We go inside to see five guys around someone on an operating table. It’s Adrian. They opened up his head and have been messing with his brain. They make threats to his continued health if we don’t let them complete their procedure. They say he is not powered.
They suggest I leave, so I do and gate home. I yell for my parents, and Dad comes. I tell him what’s going on and we go back.
15 minutes later, they have closed Adrian up and say he can leave if we want to risk it. They have verified he is not the telepath and refuse to tell us what they did.
Dad goes off to find our stuff and take care of the guards.
I try and hack into their computers. Yellow FEAT using a Shift Z ability. Ellie helps with a Yellow FEAT of her own. It was exploratory surgery. Looking for some certain bit of physical brain modification that indicates telepathy.
And them Mom shows up.
A gateway opens up and Celestia steps through in all her pissed-off glory. The computers nearby fry.
He gives us the entire “greater good” BS, which pisses Mom off even more. Not to mention sending my temper into the stratosphere. He is apparently a hired gun and does not know where his “subjects” come from, and does not choose them. He’s only doing what he’s told. Yeah, thanks Dr. Mengle. He and I argue while Mom goes off to find Mr. Cenpec.
We continue the head-bashing fun. Dude is a Harvard graduate. Wow. They’re really turning out the moral ones aren’t they? I tell him he’s coming with us to let the doctors know what he did. We get into a “who’s the bigger bad guy” pissing contest, and then Mom comes back and says she has the authority. She tells him he will suffer Adrian’s fate, and then opens up a gateway, sending them through to Citadel. She sends us to the ER at St. Augustine’s in Boston.
At the ER…
Hedron meets us and gives us our stuff. I grab writing stuff and scribble down everything I remember from the files on their computer. The attending doctor comes out and I give him a pile of papers with the information.
Kimyee calls Ben to make sure he’s okay.
Montana gov office. Today we experienced a 4.8 earthquake whose epicenter was under an old prison in Montana. They are sending a geological team to investigate.
The doc says that Adrian appears to be fine. They did a CAT scan and did not see anything wrong. They are not going to open him back up because of the risk of hemorrhaging. He’ll have to be in an induced coma for 24 hours and thus will be in ICU.
They doc will let me go in as his “next of kin” after we tell him Adrian’s father is probably out of the country and I’m his girlfriend. I get kicked out when visiting hours end, but will return bright and happy tomorrow morning.
We go to the mansion and stay for the night. I swim off some aggression and then take a nice, luxurious bath. I give Dad a complete rundown on what happened. He says I can take one day off if Adrian is not awake by the time visiting hours end on Sunday.
The rest of the night passes uneventfully.
The next day…
Crepes for breakfast, prepared by Chef Ambrosi.
Back to the hospital. I spend the day in Adrian’s room with my tablet working on designs. Adrian wakes up craving a steak. We discuss the “mutant threat”, and he’s been contemplating the other side, trying to understand.
The doc comes in and boots me so they can do some more tests.
Tony calls to say he never got Georgia. Apparently, no one stepped out of the gate. Crap. He’s going to check the footage again. Kimyee theorizes that maybe she’s invisible. Ironman and Dad go looking for her and find her. Thank god!
CNN reports that there was a previously unknown microfault in the area of the earthquake and that it collapsed in on itself, sealing the area and everything will be fine.
Adrian’s tests went well, and he’s being released back to school with limitations on his physical activities. No strenuous activities, which includes things that will raise his blood pressure.
We fly home on Dad’s private jet. He lets Kimyee land the plane with his guidance. He reminds me of the first time I landed a plane in a simulator at the age of four where I deliberately crashed us to see what would happen.
Kimyee lands us quite well. She may be a natural pilot. Cool!
We go back to the school and drop everyone off. I walk Adrian to his room.
Go home, do the rest of my homework, and work on projects.
Monday, February 7
No official explanation of what happened, as of yet.
Adrian is going to have to lie to his father.
Light in the sky (Mom pissed off) attributed to nearby gas main break due to earthquake. Well at least it wasn’t a weather balloon.
During a routine physical, Adrian was identified as potentially having a genetic condition on his mother’s side which caused a brain abnormality (potential aneurism) and they decided to remove it before he got to adulthood and it became dangerous. Emergency surgery.
Georgia is back at school.
She’s bugged out about her experiences, and thinks she is a freak because of her abilities. We talk her down, and discuss what she can do.
We go to class and meet at lunch. Georgia is now officially on suspension. We give her the assignments thus far. I go visit Adrian.
Rumours around the school spread over the weekend while we were away.
It’s possible that we are not on the up and up because a known criminal is associating with us. Maybe we are conspiring with her or vice versa.
The reason Adrian is laid up because Andrew Tyler kicked his ass when he found out he and Alessandra were having sex. – one of the girls (Allison Munro who hangs around the biggest slut in the school) asks me about it when I have a shocked response. She tells me to stop being a prude.
Colorado, of course, makes a scene in Physics. “You’re lucky I don’t have more evidence or I would bring you all up on charges of conspiracy.” Then she walks away with her nose in the air. Prat.
Professor gives us the fuzzy eyeball indicating we need to stay after class. He asks us about Georgia. We meet him at the Sanctum.
He asks us to describe the ground opening up beneath us. I draw a sketch for him, but its not completely accurate.
We tell him what happened and discuss what to do about Georgia. We should keep our identities a secret for now, but we should probably contact her using Ironman as a connection.
Aunt Katherine comes to visit on Wednesday and we go shopping. She has us pick some nice dresses, her treat, but we have to wear it to dinner. Ben meets us and really enjoys his evening with several hot chicks. Paparazzi show up, but get pimp-slapped by Kat and told to leave if they do not want to be excluded from the next press conference.
We get hassled a bit during the day, and then prepare to go meet Georgia as our super hero group.
We will meet her by the lake after meeting in the Sanctum.
She’s there, looking shy and a bit paranoid
We introduce ourselves and chat about the situation.
She’s afraid Vivienne will set her up and lead her new friends into a trap and make it look like she did it.
She wants to join us. Ever since she met her new friends (us), she has wanted to do something to help.
“Evil triumphs when good people do nothing.”
Georgia is telepathic and she can turn invisible.
I suggest she wait to decide to join us until after she adjusts to her new way of thinking.
She thanks us for our time and we take off.
We still need a group name.
We go back to the Sanctum and discuss what just happened.
And about the fact that I’m going to Finishing School.
Adrian is still going to the Valentine’s day dance. He’ll be wearing a top hat.
Cyrillo is going, but not with a date.
Ellie needs a geek to sweep her off her feet and lunge under her defenses to become the man of her dreams. Cyrillo did not pass the Level 1 litmus test. The intern at Phoenix apparently didn’t get past Level 2, since he must have the correct combination of favorite Doctors, starship captains, and other geek stuff.
Wow. Talk about picky.
We go home and do homework and plan for tomorrow’s festivities.
